Efforts are underway to rescue 57 workers trapped in an avalanche near the BR camp in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand. Ten workers have already been rescued and shifted to an army camp. The workers were engaged in road construction when the avalanche struck. Heavy snowfall is delaying the rescue operations, according to Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Executive Engineer C.R. Meena.
A 65-member team is conducting the rescue operation, which includes personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed his concern over the incident, stating, “Praying to God for the safety of all our brothers trapped in the avalanche.”
The meteorological department had earlier issued a warning predicting heavy rainfall in several hilly regions, including Uttarakhand, until tonight. The warning also mentioned the possibility of road flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas due to continuous rainfall.
