Bhartruhari Mehtab sworn in as pro-tem speaker of Lok Sabha

New Delhi: BJP MP Bhartruhari Mehtab has taken charge as the pro-term speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha. Draupadi Murmu administered the oath at the swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The pro-term speaker took charge ahead of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which begins with the swearing-in of new MPs.

A seven-time MP, Bhartruhari Mehtab is the most senior Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha. The Congress and other opposition parties had raised the allegation that Suresh, who is an eight-time MP, was left out.

But the BJP has stated that the reason why Bhartruhari Mehtab got the post was that he became an MP for seven consecutive terms after coming to the Parliament. New MPs will be sworn in during the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which begins today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others reached the Parliament.
