An Indian Air Force C-130J aircraft has reportedly been hit by a GPS-spoofing attack. The GPS spoofing reportedly altered the aircraft’s real-time coordinates by misleading the aircraft’s navigation system during flight. Defence sources said that the IAF pilots immediately switched to the Internal Navigation System (INS) to ensure safe navigation.
India is conducting a rescue mission in earthquake-hit Myanmar, dubbed Operation Brahma. The attack on the aircraft came during this time. In addition to the C-130J, the Indian Air Force has also deployed C-17 Globemaster heavy-lift transport aircraft to transport relief supplies and rescue workers to Myanmar.
GPS spoofing is a type of cyber attack. GPS spoofing involves the use of fake signals to overwhelm real satellite data and confuse systems. Similar spoofing incidents have occurred near the India-Pakistan border in the past. Since November 2023, 465 cases of GPS spoofing have been reported near Amritsar and Jammu.
