Delhi: Schools Shift Online Amid Severe Air Pollution Crisis

Delhi continues to grapple with severe air pollution, prompting significant measures including a shift to online classes for grades 10 and 12. Colleges and departments under Delhi University have also moved classes online until November 23. Similarly, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments have implemented online education in cities like Gurgaon, Noida, and Ghaziabad.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed 700 in several areas yesterday, reducing visibility to less than 200 meters. In response, Delhi has activated Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The Supreme Court has questioned the government on steps taken to control pollution and criticized the delay in enforcing Stage 3 of GRAP. It also instructed that current restrictions remain in place until further orders.

A petition highlighted the exclusion of grades 10 and 12 from online classes, arguing that these students’ lungs are no different from others. Following this, the Supreme Court directed the government to shift all schools up to grade 12 to online mode.
