Devendra Fadnavis has been chosen as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra by the BJP core committee. He will take the oath of office tomorrow.
The decision comes 11 days after the Maharashtra Assembly election results were announced, following prolonged uncertainty due to the demands of the Eknath Shinde faction. Shinde initially resisted Fadnavis being named as CM and later proposed a power-sharing model similar to that in Bihar.
However, with the BJP refusing to compromise, Shinde had no option but to accept the Deputy Chief Minister’s position offered by the party. Speculation remains about Shinde’s interest in key portfolios like Home Affairs, which had been retained by Fadnavis in the past. The deadlock eased following discussions between Fadnavis and Shinde.
