High Court Rebukes Mamata Banerjee, Orders End to Defamatory Remarks Against Governor CV Ananda Bose

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court criticized Mamata Banerjee in the defamation case filed by Governor Dr C.V.Ananda Bose against the Chief Minister of West Bengal. High Court Single Bench Judge Justice Krishna Rao restrained Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee from making defamatory or false statements against Governor Ananda Bose.

The court proceedings are in the defamation case filed by Ananda Bose on June 28. Ananda Bose filed the case against Mamata’s statement that women complained to him that they were afraid to visit the Raj Bhavan. A temporary employee of the Raj Bhavan had made allegations of sexual assault against the Governor. This was pointed out by Mamata’s remark. On Monday, Mamata Banerjee stated in the court that she stands by her remarks.

Her lawyer argued that Mamata was only reflecting the concerns of women in some incidents related to Raj Bhavan. At the same time, the Governor, through a lawyer, sought to restrain Mamata Banerjee, two new MLAs and a Trinamool Congress leader from making further comments regarding the incident.
