Hindu musician Rahul Ananda’s house set on fire in Bangladesh, over 3,000 musical instruments burnt

Dhaka: Hindu musician Rahul Ananda’s house was looted and set on fire by an angry mob following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in Bangladesh. A mob attacked the musician’s residence at 32 Dhanmondi in Dhaka on Monday afternoon.

Rahul Ananda, his wife and their son escaped the attack unharmed, but the assailants ransacked the artist’s house with everything they could find. Valuables were stolen and Ananda’s extensive collection of over 3000 musical instruments was destroyed by fire.

First, the attackers broke the gate and started destroying the house. Everything from furniture and mirrors to valuables were taken. After that, they set the house on fire with Rahul Da’s musical instruments, musician, lyricist and singer Rahul Ananda runs a popular folk band in Dhaka called Jolar Gaan.

The prime minister’s ouster was sparked by mass protests over controversial job quotas in government services. Soon after, attacks against minorities including Hindus intensified in Bangladesh. Violent protesters have burnt and destroyed several houses, businesses and religious places over the past two days.
