New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday appointed Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain, who was the additional DGP of Jammu and Kashmir, as the full-time DGP of UT.
“With the approval of the competent authority, Shri RR Swain, presently holding additional charge of DGP of J&K, is hereby appointed to the post of DGP of J&K with effect from the date of assumption of charge till 30-09-2024 or until further orders.
He was the head of the Investigation Department of the Police (CID). As the Supreme Court’s deadline to hold assembly elections before September 30 is nearing, preparations are underway to hold assembly elections in UT.
Swain’s confirmation as DGP coincides with ECI’s two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir to assess the situation for holding elections. The two-day visit will begin on Thursday where the ECI, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, will meet the UT DGP and Chief Secretary besides the six recognized political parties of UT.
