Islamists Attempt Animal Sacrifice Near Temple, Stopped by Police

Police intervened to stop the slaughter of animals near the Thirupparankundram Murugan Temple in Tamil Nadu. The action was based on a complaint filed by Solai Kannan, Madurai District President of the Hindu Makkal Katchi, who alleged that Islamic organizations were attempting to perform Qurbani sacrifices of goats and chickens near the temple at the Sikandar Badhusha Dargah on Madurai Hill.

The complaint emphasized the religious significance of the Thirupparankundram Subramanya Swamy Temple and called for preserving the sanctity of the area.

The groups involved included members of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), reportedly linked to the banned Popular Front of India (PFI). On Saturday, a group of Muslims, led by leaders of an Islamic Jamaat, attempted to carry out animal sacrifices as part of a feast at the dargah. However, police denied them entry, reiterating that only prayers were permitted at the dargah and animal sacrifices were not allowed.

Earlier discussions with district authorities by Islamic organizations seeking permission for the ceremony had also been rejected. Hindu groups opposed the attempt, alleging efforts to turn the hill into an Islamic worship site, citing its historical and religious importance to Hindus.
Police ensured law and order in the area, preventing further tension between the communities.
