Kanyakumari to Kashmir Train Service Set to Launch in January

Delhi: Ahead of the commencement of train services connecting Kashmir Valley with other parts of the country, the Railways is conducting trials of five AC sleeper trains and Vande Bharat chair cars on the Jammu-Kashmir route. To ensure the safety of passengers and trains, airport-style security checks will be implemented for passengers boarding these trains.

Preparations are in full swing, with the Railway Safety Commissioner scheduled to conduct the final inspection of the Katra-Reasi section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail line on January 5, sources revealed.

Alongside the train service inauguration, Prime Minister Modi is expected to inaugurate the newly completed Z-Morh tunnel in Kashmir, according to reports. Meanwhile, a successful trial run of a cargo-loaded train on the Katra-Reasi section has been conducted. Once operational, the train service will complete the rail link between Kashmir and Kanyakumari.

Earlier, it was indicated that the inauguration might take place on January 26. However, reports now suggest it could be held on January 12, coinciding with Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary. Special provisions are being made at platforms for passengers boarding trains to Kashmir, as per reports. Comprehensive security arrangements will be in place, including detailed inspections of goods, luggage, and passengers, similar to the checks conducted before boarding flights.
