About 10 crore pilgrims
The tragedy occurred just one kilometer from the Triveni Sangam Ghat during the auspicious time of Mauni Amavasya, when around 10 crore pilgrims are expected to take holy dip. No program at the Kumbh Mela has changed. Everything is under control.
Due to the stampede, the Akharas cancelled their processions and postponed the holy bath.
The Amrita Snan on the new moon day of Mauni Amavasya is the most important ceremony of the Maha Kumbh. This year, the occasion holds spiritual significance due to a rare celestial alignment known as ‘Triveni Yog’, which occurs once in 144 years.
The situation is under control.
DIG Mahakumbh Vaibhav Krishna directed the police personnel on horseback to assist the devotees from the Triveni Sangam Ghat. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, accompanied by sniffer dogs, conducted regular security checks in the area to ensure the safety of the devotees on the day of Mauni Amavasya.
With over 100 million people expected to take the holy dip today at the 2025 Mahakumbh Triveni Sangam, efforts to control the crowd for 2025 have been put in place with all the necessary precautions.
“We are expecting over 10 crore people today. The largest human gathering in the history of the earth. Our officers and staff have been controlling the crowd since yesterday evening and devotees are taking bath peacefully at all stages,” Vaibhav Krishna said. He acknowledged the difficulty caused by the morning crowd, adding that the police would be able to handle the situation more effectively.
