Modi Government Unveils Major Announcements for Farmers

Modi government is making big announcements for farmers. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the central government is farmer-friendly and gives priority to agriculture and farmers’ welfare. Modi government has taken big decisions keeping the interest of farmers in mind. It has been decided to increase the import duty on edible oils from 0% to 20%. Adding other factors, the total effective duty would be 27.5%, Chauhan said.

The Union Minister said that with this measure, all oilseed farmers, especially soybean and chickpea farmers, will get good prices for their crops that are coming to the market. Along with this, oilseed sowing will increase in rabi and mustard crop will fetch good prices. With this decision, the production of Soya Khali will also increase.

A decision has also been taken to remove the minimum export duty on basmati rice, Chauhan said. The Union Minister said that with the removal of export duty, farmers producing Basmati will get a fair price for their produce and the step taken will increase demand for Basmati rice and increase exports. The Union Minister added that it has been decided to raise the basic duty on refined oil to 32.5 percent. This decision will increase the demand for refined oil of mustard, sunflower and groundnut.

Chauhan said that farmers will get better prices for their crops and employment opportunities will increase along with the increase of refineries in small and rural areas. The government is committed to the betterment of farmers and has decided to reduce the export duty on onion from 40% to 20%. He said that with the reduction in export duty, onion farmers will get good price for onion and onion export will also increase. This decision of the government will directly benefit the farmers and other sectors related to onion, said Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reiterated the government’s commitment to increase farmer income and rural employment for the welfare of farmers. Highlighting the recent decisions aimed at increasing farmer income and rural employment, Modi said whether it is reduced export duty on onion or increased import duty on edible oils, such decisions will greatly benefit our food producers. These decisions will increase their income as well as employment opportunities in rural areas.

And the Modi government has prioritized the welfare of farmers. Seven major projects worth Rs 13,966 crore were recently approved. These initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to addressing the multifaceted challenges facing the agricultural sector, from sustainability and climate resilience to income generation and technological advancement.
