Ranchi: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren gets hit back. The court rejected the petition challenging the ED’s arrest in the money laundering case. The petition was rejected by the Jharkhand High Court. The ED had earlier approached the Supreme Court against Soren’s plea seeking interim relief in the money laundering case. A bench comprising Justices Sanjeev Khanna and Dipankar Dutta adjourned Soren’s plea for hearing today.
Soren was arrested on January 31 in connection with a money laundering case registered in connection with the 600 crore land scam. The ED had recovered more than Rs 36 lakh from the possession of the JMM chief along with documents related to the land scam. The ED has alleged that the former chief minister acquired 8.5 acres of land and that it is part of the proceeds of crime.
Soren had earlier asked the court for an urgent hearing in the context of the Lok Sabha elections. The Jharkhand High Court adjourned hearing Soren’s petition on February 28.
Soren claims in his petition that his arrest was unnecessary and that his remand in this matter was illegal. Hemant Soren was arrested by ED on charges of money laundering in the mining scam case.
