New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that religious-based reservations will not be permitted in India as long as the BJP remains in power. His comments follow claims by Congress leaders in Maharashtra, who suggested they would support 10% reservation for Muslims. Amit Shah accused the Congress of attempting to reduce reservations for backward and Dalit communities to allocate quotas for Muslims.
He emphasized that the Constitution does not provide for reservation based on religion and reiterated that BJP would not allow any reduction in backward class quotas to make space for religious-based reservation.
