PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli scheme to power 1 cr homes, Rs 18,000 subsidy

New Delhi: Solar power has more importance in the first budget of the third Narendra Modi government. 1.28 crore registrations and 14 lakh applications have already been received under this scheme which will help in reducing electricity rates. Solar project announced for one crore more houses. Prime Minister Surya Ghar Muft Bijli project has already received good response.

The scheme is designed to provide considerable financial relief to ordinary households by harnessing solar energy. By installing solar panels on the roof, households can save at least Rs 15,000 to Rs 18,000 annually. Moreover, many youths with technical skills in solar panel installation and maintenance will also get job opportunities.

Under the solar scheme, the subsidy to homeowners ranges from Rs 9,000 to Rs 18,000 per kilowatt. And for a 3 KW to 5 KW installation costing Rs 2.20 Lakh to Rs 3.5 Lakh can be paid in installments like you normally pay your electricity bill. The capacity of this solar project which was started in 2016 was 2.7 GW. However, the target is to increase it to 40 GW in the coming years.
