Sale of liquor has been banned in Karnataka for five days this week. The sale of liquor has been banned from today till the 4th as voting for the Legislative Council elections and the announcement of the results of the Lok Sabha elections will be held on June 4. The Karnataka government has announced that June 6, when the counting of votes for the Legislative Council elections will take place, will also be a dry day.

The sale and consumption of liquor was banned under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Excise department officials in the state said that the ban will be applicable on the production, sale, distribution and storage of liquor on the above mentioned dates. The order applies to liquor stores, wine shops, bars, hotels and restaurants that are permitted to serve alcohol.

At the same time, Bevco officials informed that today and the 4th will be a complete dry day in Kerala. The liquor ban is due to the fact that today, the first day, is a permanent dry day and the fourth day is the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections.
