Kolkata: The Supreme Court’s verdict cancelling the appointments in government-aided schools in West Bengal has upheld the stand of Governor Dr C.V. Ananda Bose in this regard. The Supreme Court yesterday nullified the appointments of 25,753 teachers and other staff in government-aided schools.
A significant turning point in the case came when the Governor, exercising his constitutional powers, granted permission to prosecute former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee in cases filed by the CBI, which is investigating the illegal appointment case.
Chatterjee was arrested on July 23, 2022, by the Enforcement Directorate, which is investigating the money laundering case. The CBI had also taken him into custody in connection with the investigation into school job fraud cases.
The Governor sanctioned prosecution against the minister, saying that irregularities in the recruitment process of teaching and non-teaching staff in government and aided schools in West Bengal had made the lives of thousands of deserving candidates miserable. It paved the way for bringing the culprits to justice and facilitating a CBI investigation.
