Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to convene a meeting today at 12 PM in Delhi to assess the situation in Manipur. Shah, in a previous meeting, directed officials to take all possible measures to restore peace in the state.
The National People’s Party (NPP) has launched a scathing attack on the Biren Singh-led government following their withdrawal of support to the coalition. NPP leader Yumnam Joykumar criticized the government for losing control over the state, attributing their decision to the worsening law and order situation. Joykumar further warned that the state is heading towards a critical juncture.
Tensions between communities have escalated, with Meitei organizations issuing a 24-hour ultimatum demanding strict action against Kuki armed groups. The groups warned of intensified protests if their demands are not met satisfactorily.
In the last two days, residences of 13 MLAs have been attacked in Manipur, with two incidents reported just yesterday evening. Amid mounting pressure, NDA allies are expected to demand central intervention, including a potential change in the chief minister.
