The Supreme Court has stayed the work of the Centre’s Fact Check Unit

New Delhi. The Supreme Court has stayed the functioning of the Fact Check Unit started under the Press Information Bureau to check the facts of news and content related to the Central Government. Last day, the central government issued a notification to start the fact check unit.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court’s stay is pending the Bombay High Court’s final verdict regarding the IT Amendment Act. It was alleged that the fact check unit is to prevent criticism against the government. The notification was directed to remove content against the central government from the internet if found to be false.

The allegation was that the news that the government is not interested in can be removed if it is said to be fake.
