Kolkata: Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan , the prime suspect in the Sandeshkhali sexual assault case, has been arrested by the police. Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested from North Parganas district on Thursday morning.
The arrests were made in cases of land grabbing and sexual assault against women in Sandeshkhali. Sheikh ShahJahan was arrested by a special team of police from North 24 Parganas district last night. He was absconding for 55 days.
The Trinamool government’s inaction was heavily criticized for not apprehending Sheikh Shahjahan, who was absconding. It was alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is protecting Trinamool gangsters.
In 2019, Sheikh Shahjahan is accused in several cases including the murder of three BJP workers. The Enforcement Directorate has registered cases against him in cases like ration-land scams and money laundering. Sheikh Shahjahan is also accused in the case of attack on electricity department employees in Bengal.
