Uttar Pradesh: Platform collapses during Laddu Mahotsav, 7 dead, 50 injured

Lucknow: The Jain community in Bataut had organised a ‘Laddu Mahotsav’ on Tuesday. As part of this, a bamboo platform was set up for the people. Seven people died and more than 50 were injured after a bamboo platform collapsed in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. The platform could not bear the weight when the crowd increased.

Baghpat Police Chief Arpit Vijayvargiya said that police and ambulances reached the spot immediately after the incident and shifted the injured to the hospital. The seriously injured people are undergoing treatment. He added that those with minor injuries were given first aid and sent home.

District Magistrate Asmita Lal said that the local Jain community has been celebrating ‘Ladu Mahotsav’ every year for the past 30 years. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the incident. The Chief Minister’s Office said that prayers were offered for the recovery of the injured. He also asked for speedy relief operations at the site.
