High Temperature Warning for Today and Tomorrow in the State, Yellow Alert in 11 Districts

The presence of high levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation has been recorded in seven districts of Kerala over the past 24 hours. As a result, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has extended the high-temperature warning for today and tomorrow across the state.

An Orange Alert has been issued in Kollam district due to elevated UV index levels, requiring extreme caution from the public. According to the UV Index, the radiation level in Kottarakkara, Kollam, has reached 8, which is considered high. Meanwhile, a Yellow Alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts due to increased UV exposure.

Prolonged exposure to UV rays can lead to heatstroke, skin diseases, eye disorders, and other health issues. Therefore, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to minimize exposure.

A Yellow Alert has been declared in 11 districts for today and tomorrow due to rising temperatures. According to IMD:

Thrissur and Palakkad districts may experience temperatures as high as 38°C.
Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod may see temperatures reaching 37°C.
Alappuzha and Malappuram may record up to 36°C.
Due to high temperatures and humidity, hot and humid conditions are expected in these districts, except for the hilly regions, until tomorrow.

UV radiation is highest between 10 AM and 3 PM, and exposure during these hours should be minimized. The following groups are advised to take extra precautions:

Outdoor workers
Fishermen (both inland and marine)
Water transport workers
Bike riders and travelers
Tourists
Individuals with skin diseases or eye conditions
Cancer patients and those with weakened immune systems
Areas such as hilly and tropical regions generally experience higher UV index levels. Even on clear, cloudless days, UV radiation can be significantly high. Additionally, surfaces like water bodies and sand reflect UV rays, further increasing exposure risks. IMD has advised extreme caution for people in such areas.
