New Delhi. The Citizenship Amendment Act has been notified. The rules are issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. There were reports that the citizenship amendment notification will be released on Monday itself.
The Union Home Ministry will start accepting applications for citizenship soon. The Center has initiated steps to grant Indian citizenship to six religious minorities in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
The law was passed in 2019. The Act came into force in 2020 but was not implemented as the rules were not formulated. Those who arrived in India before December 31, 2014 can apply for citizenship.
