KPAC Lalitha says RLV Ramakrishnan’s statement about his own press release on the incident where he was denied the opportunity to perform Mohiniyattam at the Kochi ∙ Sangeetha Nataka Academy. Kalabhavan Mani’s brother Ramakrishnan had said yesterday that the press release issued by Lalitha (KPAC Lalitha) saying that he had not applied for the dance and had not spoken would be a joke of the secretary and that she would never say so. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at the scene. He revealed the cause of the suicide attempt while resting at home after treatment. He had said that he would not perform dance in Sargabhumika even if he was allowed to do so.
The controversy started when he applied to dance in Sargabhumika, an online dance program organized by the Sangeetha Nataka Academy. The academy secretary said that Mohiniyattam did not have a chance and that he would be given a chance to lecture, but he refused. RLV Ramakrishnan said that the academy chairperson then spoke to KPAC Lalitha and promised to talk to the secretary and arrange an opportunity. But it is alleged that the chairperson later changed her mind. Various organizations protested in front of the academy, alleging that he was denied his opportunity due to caste and gender discrimination. Meanwhile, when a press release was issued in the name of the chairperson, Ramakrishnan was under pressure and was hospitalized after attempting suicide.
